Garden Designer for Listed Properties

As a Garden Designer for listed properties Barry can assist you with a sensitive design and planting scheme for your property. If you are privileged to own a listed property then you may wish to take extra care in planning any alterations to the garden. You will obviously want to consider sympathetic planting and garden features that compliment the style, design and period of the property.

There are many books to consult on stylised planting and period features such as buildings, furniture and stoneware if you are keen to match a particular period in the history of gardening. Or maybe you wish a collection of periods spread across the garden.

If you own a listed property then Listed Building Consent is administered by your local authority. As each building is individual there are no specific rules for what can or can't be done without consent. When the Council considers whether to grant or to refuse an application it considers the desirability of preserving the building, its setting and those features which make it special.

Remember that Listed status covers a whole building, inside and out, so that includes the garden. Barry Holdsworth can undertake discussions with the local authority Conservation Officer in order to check if consent is required. If it is then Barry can complete the necessary paperwork for you and you should receive a decision on smaller schemes within eight weeks.

There are other areas of interest that the Council protect such as properties in a Conversation Area or an Area of Outstanding National Beauty (AONB). The trees on your property may be subject to Tree Preservation Orders and these are covered on another page on the website. You do not need to worry as help is at hand and Barry has experience of all the aforementioned and will be able to assist in any applications that may be required.

If you require assistance in choosing the right materials and plants for your garden then why not enlist the help of someone whose passion is plants and garden history?
